It Works If You Work It

I went to an Al-Anon meeting this week for the first time in several months. No new alcohol-related horror drove me to the meeting, I just figured I would go check it out. I decided against sharing at the outset of the meeting and, you know? That actually made it a much better experience for me. Not that the meetings I went to before were bad, but my need was so fresh then that I really felt compelled to speak every time I went. As it happens, however, the "speak" bone in my body does not connect directly to the "think" bone. Going during the day proved more convenient than I expected, so we'll see how it goes. I missed my latest appointment with Dr. Melfi, so at least I did something useful for my mental health this week.

Speaking of alcohol-related horror, the latest misery in my lady parts appears to stem from interstitial cystitis rather than a UTI. My ever-increasing intake of diet soda over the past year and a half is really more to blame than my recent consumption of malt liquor, though I'm sure that didn't help any. I went to the doc-in-the-box Thursday night in desperation and tested negative for an infection, but they gave me some sulfa drugs just in case. The good news: I remembered about the existence of AZO Standard and got some, thus significantly improving my physical comfort. The bad news: they took my blood pressure, and holy crap! It was 145/92. I'd like to think the high reading was just because of my discomfort, but if I am honest with myself I must admit that it's been almost that high every time I've had it taken in the past year. I've got appointments with the gyno and the regular doctor next week to follow up.

I was going to post about health care reform or the torments of insincerity, but meh. This evening a little birdie told me (declined credit card!) that I'd forgotten to pay most of last month's bills. Probably I should do something about that.

I hear you about your speak bone and think bone. Beloved and I are going to this thing where you have to have to be holding the football for it to be your turn to talk. It has really made me realize how much I need to shut my yap and let other people have a say for a gol darn minute.
